Welcome to another Ask Kara & Tabetha Anything episode! In this off-the-cuff convo-style episode, Tabetha and I chat about Creative Knitting Magazine, TNNA, Sweet Georgia Yarn, and a doozy of a question from caller Jenny Clark. Also, this episode is the first of it's kind and a little daring for us because it's raw and unedited! It's just us, right out the the gate from the moment I hit record. You're getting it all...no intro music, no editing. The bottom line is, I know you want good content. It's not about fancy background music. We think you'll really like this radical new approach! How Passion Manifests in Unexpected Ways... In this short and sweet solo episode I talk about a recent ah-ha moment and ask you a thought provoking question about how your own knitting passion drives your life and what it would be like without it. Personally, I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for my passion for knitting. Looking back at the stepping stones is amazing-- first as a budding a designer, then embarking on an illustration freelance career, to becoming the Executive Editor of Creative Knitting Magazine and Host of Power Purls Podcast. This passion has also helped me pay forward my nearly 15 years in the industry through business coaching for creative entrepreneurs. Question: How has your passion for knitting manifested in ways that supports your life personally and professionally? How different do you think your life would be without knitting? Today I'm chatting with Laura Zander about her amazing connection to the new movie, Eddie the Eagle, starting Hugh Jackman and Tarron Edgerton. In this episode, Laura tells the story about how a Hollywood producer (who happens to be a knitter herself!) reached out to Laura in order to spread the word about the movie, and how a very special red and white sweater is the common thread that symbolizes love, community, following your dreams and knitting for those you love. A true multi-crafter she is proficient at embroidery, macramé and crochet but finally settled on handknitting at the age of 22. It was in New York where she developed her talent during the early 80s and started her business. There she designed for the knitting magazines and a private clientele as well as sold her designs to better boutiques in Manhattan. The high point of her time in NY was a handknit collection under her own label that was sold to select boutiques in 20 states from Florida to Alaska. The move over the Atlantic to Mariefred, Sweden in 1986 would give her the peace and harmony to raise a family and develop her business and artistic creativity even further. Cornelia divides her time between Mariefred, Sweden and Atlanta, designing and attending to her yarn line, Heaven’s Hand. In this impromptu episode, recorded this past Friday morning after an amazing workout, I decided to publicly announce my plan to get to work on a new eBook about the business of design. If you're on my mailing list, then you're familiar with the free guide I shared with you called: The 8 Essential Steps to Creating a Killer Design Proposal. In the guide I reveal the 8 actions you need to take that will land your design proposal on the top of the heap and get an editor's attention. If you haven't signed up to get the free guide, visit www.powerpurlspodcast.com In this episode I talk about how I'll be digging into to the same concepts I touch upon the free guide, and how I'll dive even deeper and discuss topics such as how to set up your business for success by learning how to become a "scrappy" designer, innovative marketing techniques and PR, and I'll also draw from my own background in the health and wellness field that spans more than a decade and elaborate on and why taking a holistic approach to your lifestyle is crucial to your creative designing life. I want to make sure I'm on track with touching upon the topics that appeal to you most, and your feedback would be so appreciated. If you are a knitwear designer, or aspire to become one, please take this quick survey. This is your chance to get on the ground-floor and take an active role in the creation of this book!
